ECA Executive Board Members Ivan Gazidis (Arsenal FC) and Edwin van der Sar (AFC Ajax) as well as ECA General Secretary Michele Centenaro today met with a number of leading members of the European Parliament's Sport Intergroup in Brussels. The meeting provided an opportunity for ECA to share the clubs' position on a number of key topics currently at the top of the agenda of European football.
The Sport Intergroup, which is officially recognised by the European Parliament, brings together Members of the European Parliament from various political groups and committees to address themes relevant to sport.
Similar to the meeting between ECA Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and EU Sports Commissioner Tibor Navracsics held on 29 February, discussions with the Sport Intergroup centred on a variety of important topics, including, but not limited to, good governance in football and the current transfer system.
The meeting allowed for a constructive exchange of views between the parties and confirmed the importance of regular engagement between ECA and the EU to ensure that the clubs' voice is being heard and understood by those in a position to influence sports policy in the European Union.
