European Club Association (ECA), in collaboration with UEFA Academy, has announced the launch of the Sporting Director Programme (SDP), an innovative three-month programme tailored to enhance the expertise of sporting directors across Europe. This initiative underscores ECA’s commitment to advancing professionalism and excellence within football clubs, forming a pivotal part of ECA’s Football Vision.

A Game-Changing Educational Opportunity

The SDP aims to equip current and aspiring sporting directors with the strategic insights, leadership skills, and technical know-how required to excel in the rapidly evolving football landscape. Combining practical learning with expert-led sessions, the programme spans three face-to-face seminars and two online masterclasses, providing a comprehensive overview of modern club management. 

Participants will have the opportunity to: 

- Develop effective governance and sports strategies. 

- Build leadership and decision-making capabilities. 

- Gain a deeper understanding of legal frameworks and business acumen. 

- Explore the latest trends and technologies shaping football’s future. 

This cutting-edge programme will also provide attendees with the chance to expand their networks and exchange best practices with peers from across European football. 

Diederik Dewaele, ECA’s Director of Football, highlighted the programme’s importance for the development of football leadership:

Key Programme Dates

The first edition of the SDP will run from March to May 2025, with key dates as follows: 

Seminar 1: Football Governance and Sports Strategies (17-19 March, Madrid) 
Seminar 2: Legal Framework and Business Skills (22-24 April, Düsseldorf) 
Seminar 3: Evolution of Football and New Technologies (13-15 May, Nyon)

In addition, two online masterclasses will be held on the 2 April and 5 May 2025. This will involve testimonials from leading sporting directors, including case studies and a football management workshop.

Applications are now open and must be submitted by 8 January 2025. Aspiring participants can apply via the UEFA Academy website
