In order to guarantee fair representation is achieved at all levels of ECA Membership and to define the number of clubs per National Association eligible to become ECA Ordinary Member, the ECA Membership Panel is divided into four "Subdivisions". Each Subdivision comprises 26-30 Ordinary Member Clubs in total, spread in accordance with the UEFA Country Ranking (i.e. Subdivision 1 comprises 30 Ordinary Member Clubs coming from National Associations ranked No. 1-6 in the official UEFA Country Ranking).
Subdivisions are used for the purposes of determining the number of ordinary members and scale of representation in the ECA Executive Board. Based on the UEFA Country Ranking, ECA Member Clubs are positioned in the relevant Subdivision (1-4) dependent on their National Association affiliation. The number of ECA Board Members per each Subdivision is representative of the number of Ordinary Member Clubs in the respective Subdivision. e.g. Subdivision 1 (UEFA Country Rankings: National Associations 1-6) has the highest amount of Ordinary Member Clubs (30), and therefore has the highest number of representing ECA Board Members (5). This ensures that all members, regardless of size, are appropriately represented in the ECA Board.
During ECA Executive Board elections, Ordinary Members meet in their respective Subdivisions to duly elect the number of Board Members for their specific Subdivision. Also, at the occasion of the ECA General Assembly, members clubs have the opportunity to meet with their respective subdivisions to discuss relevant topics of interest to clubs of similar sizes and stature. This creates an essential platform for clubs to bring forward any recommednations to be taken to the ECA Executive Board.
The following table demonstrates the number of Board Members per Subdivision (The 4 appointed ECA representatives on UEFA`s Professional Football Strategy Council (PFSC) take autmotatic membership on the ECA Board):
